Everybody says that there's no such thing as a free lunch, but I
have to tell you, I've had a heck of a lot more for free than a
lunch. Thanks to
FreebieJeebies
I can afford a house for the first time, and I'm still a medical
student. I won't lie, I've put loads and loads of work into this,
it's not an easy ride, but it is free!
Have a look at my free iPad (the original
iPad) that I got as soon as it was released in the UK last year.
Although I'm grateful and everything, I like to have the latest
model of everything (don't we all) so I'll be getting a
free
iPad 2 as soon as it is announced in the UK (I'm thinking that
it will be Q1 of 2011)
.
Rumours from Apple's Asian
component supplier suggest that the main addition to the
iPad 2 is going to be FaceTime, whilst all of the
components that are being manufactured are still 9.7 inch, we
think that this can't be the only addition to the iPad 2.
Although with the addition of FaceTime to the iPhone 4
and the latest generation iPods, it seems like a logical step to
add this to t he iPad 2, I wasn't that impressed with FaceTime
full stop, and I certainly won't be buying an iPad 2, or getting
a free iPad 2 simply based on the addition of
FaceTime, as I don't really see why/when I would use it.

Well, Apple have been at it again,
and this time it's with carbon fibre. Apple have recently filed
a patent for a carbon fibre outer shell, that the gadget forward
magazine T3 have apparently seen.
So what's so special
about a carbon fibre shell? One of the problems with the ipad,
(and therefore the ipad 2) is that as soon as your hands get
even a little bit warm, the weight of the iPad means that it
starts to slip out of your hands, and the leather cases never
really fit so the you can get all the way to the edge of the
screen.
Also, if your situation is anything like mine,
even when I'm sat by the router my wifi signal intermittantly
drops out, and a carbon fibre shell could improve the
connectivity - the previous shell was made of aluminium and
therefore a little bit signal blocking (antennagate has nothing
on this baby!).
Of course there is also the ever present
status aspect of everything that Apple does. These are
aspirational objects, owning these things means that we are
doing pretty well in life, and that's the same with anything
that is made of carbon fibre. The panel on your Audi R8? Carbon
fibre, the shell of your favourite F1 car? - Carbon fibre, the
shell of your iPad 2? - You get the idea. Carbon fibre is
expensive, and therefore owning something that is made of carbon
fibre, even if it's just the shell of your iPad 2 - Well, this
makes you the man! Doesn't it? Or does it make you someone who
pays far too much for things that, let's face it, you don't
really need? Yeah, that's more like it. How about getting a
free iPad 2 like me? That makes you the man, or
woman, or whatever. Hey, you've got a free iPad 2.
Who cares?
